The release date for Sam Smith's debut album, 'In The Lonely Hour' is finally upon us!No longer do we have to lie in wait playing 'Money on My Mind' on repeat (or was that just me?)
Sam Smith - In the Lonley Hour released 26th May 2014 |
However, before you all go rushing to the shops (or to download it more likely), be warned; don't expect a happy album full of catchy, electronic songs similar to 'Money on My Mind' as it is quite the opposite.
Smith has admitted himself that the album is full of heartbreak;
"My debut album is just a diary from a lonely 21-year-old. I fell in love with someone who didn't love me back, and it made me get into this head space of, 'Will I find love? When will I find love?'"
Don't let this news get you down though as the agonising heartache Sam endured enabled him to develop his fantastic writing skills. The album features much more meaningful, relatable lyrics which toy with your emotions. You feel as if you are going through the motions with him. It is clear that Sam doesn't want to follow in the steps of most current pop stars, making a name for themselves by releasing meaningless, mainstream songs written by someone else. He wants to write/co-write his own songs on the personal goings on in his life, whether they be happy or sad. Sam smith is the epitome of talent.

Sam Smith has been piped as the next male version of Adele, for reasons needless to say.
If this album is anything to go by, it is certain he will grow and become as big as the likes of Adele, among others. Although a lot of the songs are very simple and samey, the album is an array of beautiful, moving songs featuring terrific soulful, vocals.
With the growing amount of awards under his belt, chart topping singles and big collaborations there is no doubt we will be seeing much more of this young, talented artist over the years. He is definitely one to watch.
Best Tracks: 'Money on My Mind', 'Good Thing', 'Leave Your Lover'', Lay Me Down' & 'Reminds Me Of You' (Deluxe Edition).
